But the lighting required for the competition venue is different from the lighting we use in our daily lives. If the lighting of the competition venue is insufficient, it will affect the visibility of athletes, the judgment of referees on game violations, and the viewing experience of the audience. Especially in artificial light sources, glare can cause visual discomfort and reduce the visibility of objects. Long term exposure to strong light can ultimately lead to disgust, discomfort, and even blindness, highlighting the importance of sports lighting.

For a modern sports stadium, it is not only required to have a beautiful and elegant appearance, complete and complete sports equipment, but also to have a good lighting environment, that is, suitable and uniform illumination and brightness, ideal light color, three-dimensional sense, and no glare. In addition to ensuring good visual effects for the audience, it is also necessary to ensure the lighting requirements for referees, athletes, and competition events, as well as to ensure good television broadcasting effects.

Lighting relies on the function of light to ensure that the stadium lights act on the eyes of athletes, referees, and spectators, producing visual effects, in order to see everything on the sports field, such as the brightness of the venue environment, the colors of objects, buildings, equipment, clothing, and other surfaces, the shape and size of the viewing target, depth, three-dimensional sense, and the state of the athletes during sports, as well as the atmosphere of the stadium, and so on. So good lighting plays an important role in modern sports venues.

Generally, in the lighting design of a sports stadium, the following three factors should be considered:

1. Meet the visual requirements of athletes during sports competitions and minimize the objective impact of lighting on the competition.

2. Satisfy the visual requirements of the audience and minimize the discomfort caused by stadium lighting while watching the game.

3. Meet the lighting requirements for color TV broadcasting and strive to improve the broadcasting quality as much as possible.

In short, lighting is closely related to the competition requirements of sports events and the visual effect of the audience. A sports stadium without good lighting facilities is an incomplete sports stadium, which will seriously affect its functional use.

The lighting of general sports venues can be roughly divided into three parts: competition venue lighting, audience lighting, and emergency lighting.


Lighting of the competition venue

Taking a football field as an example, the illumination for amateur training needs to meet 200lx, for amateur matches it needs to be 300lx, and for professional matches it needs to be 500lx,

The level IV illumination for television broadcasting is 1000lx, the level V illumination is 1400lx, and the HDTV high-definition broadcasting illumination needs to reach 2000lx. (Note: Illuminance generally refers to the intensity of light, the degree to which light is illuminated on the surface of an object.)

The glare value of the competition venue depends on the type of sports. Generally, the glare value of indoor venues should be lower than 30, except for level I which needs to be lower than 35. The glare value of outdoor venues should be below 50, except for level I which is below 55.

Audience lighting

The average illumination of the chairman's table should not be less than 200lx, the minimum horizontal illumination of the audience seat should not be less than 50lx, and the illumination of the safe area between the audience seat and the competition venue should not be less than 20lx. 50lx is the minimum value for color discrimination, which is the minimum lighting standard for indoor spaces.

Emergency lighting

Emergency lighting, as part of normal lighting, is used simultaneously and should be equipped with control switches for documents; When there is a power outage due to normal lighting failure, emergency lighting should be automatically used.

The ground illumination for evacuation shall not be less than 0.5lx, the ground illumination in densely populated areas shall not be less than 1lx, and the ground illumination in the basement shall not be less than 5lx.

Emergency lighting fixtures should be installed on the upper part of the wall, ceiling, or top of the exit.

Selection requirements for lighting fixtures in sports venues

Color temperature refers to the color of an absolute black body that appears when heated from absolute zero (-273 ℃). The colors change from black to red, yellow to white, and finally emit blue light. It is generally recommended to be around 5000K, which is the color temperature of sunlight and is most suitable for the brain to sense colors.

The color rendering index refers to the color reproduction ability, generally recommended around 80; As shown in the figure, the upper part shows the effect of being illuminated by a light with a color rendering index of 65, the middle part shows the effect of being illuminated by a light with a color rendering index of 73, and the lower part shows the effect of being illuminated by a light with a color rendering index of 80.


Power efficiency refers to the ratio of the output power of a power source to the total power consumed during operation, usually around 90%; A power supply with a conversion efficiency of 85% has an output power of 300W, so its actual input power is 352W, and the additional 52W is the reactive power output of this power supply at this time. As an energy-saving power source, in addition to considering the conversion efficiency, we also need to pay attention to its standby power.

Easy to use, can start instantly, continuously, and without delay; Currently, LED lighting fixtures generally meet this requirement.

Powerful heat dissipation function; The heat dissipation of lighting fixtures directly affects their lifespan. Currently, the mainstream heat dissipation method is to use air convection to automatically dissipate heat and increase the area of heat sinks.


The lighting fixtures need to be equipped with anti glare and anti overflow devices; Glare can affect our clarity in seeing things, making our eyes easily irritated and causing discomfort such as glare, shaking, dazzling, and dazzling. For example, in football, it is necessary to frequently look up at the ball and accurately determine its spatial position and landing point. But generally high-power lighting has the drawback of being very dazzling, which makes it difficult for players to track the ball well and showcase their athletic skills. Spillover light not only wastes resources, but also easily causes interference. If the light shines into the sky, it will destroy the quiet night sky. If it shines into surrounding residential areas, it will interfere with the normal rest of residents. To solve these problems, it is necessary to have built-in anti glare and anti overflow devices in the lighting fixtures.
