1. What is LED intelligent dimming control system

Intelligent dimming refers to the use of computers, wireless communication data transmission, communication technology, computer intelligent information processing and energy-saving electrical control and other technologies composed of a variety of ways to control lighting control systems through wireless control. With the light brightness of the intensity adjustment, lighting soft start, timing control, scene settings and other functions; and to achieve the intended characteristics.


2. The principle of LED dimming system composition


For any LED device, if it is to be made into a replacement light source or LED luminaire, a driver is required to achieve dimming. Because LEDs are low-voltage DC sources, LEDs require an electronic driver to convert the AC into a usable and adjustable DC current.

The current flowing through the LED bead determines the light output and its brightness can be adjusted quite simply by controlling the energizing current of the layer of semiconductor material affixed to the substrate. Dimming reduces the operating temperature of the LED luminaire, which in turn extends the life of the LED.

3. Dimming systems


Component units


a. A system consists of three parts: system unit, input unit and output unit.

b. The input unit is responsible for passing external signals/commands into the system, e.g. smart panels, sensors, etc.

c. The system unit supports the operation of the whole system, e.g. power supply modules, etc.

d. The output unit is responsible for receiving the signals transmitted by the input unit and performing the corresponding operations, such as adjusting the brightness of the lights, etc.

Advantages and disadvantages of use


The automatic control and dimming function reduce the amount of energy wasted on lighting. LED light sources are widely used and promoted as efficient, low-power light source. Combined with intelligent control technology and network technology, LED intelligent lighting has become an inevitable trend of development. In the automation of architectural lighting electrical, LED intelligent dimming system can respond to external control system commands in a timely manner, and the signal to make the corresponding response action, its advantages are mainly expressed in the following aspects:


a. Simple, flexible operation and easy maintenance;


b. Short system start-up time, ability to set any control time and dimming level;


c. Automatic inspection of the working condition of each luminaire on a regular basis, or manual operation and detection;


d. LED intelligent dimming system wiring principle is simple and clear, easy to construct;


e. Each console has two interfaces, using standard protocols, TCP/IP interface can be selected, but also 485 interfaces, easy management;


f. control interface standardization, local in each console for real-time environmental stability monitoring, but also in the total console to each console for general control, conducive to customers to take a variety of programs to achieve control;

4. Dimming methods


Usually, there are two types of dimming: one is voltage dimming and the other is current dimming. Voltage dimming is to adjust the input voltage of the light source, so as to achieve the purpose of adjusting the brightness of the light source, but this dimming method is not particularly reliable in the energy-saving lamp dimming system, but in LED and incandescent lamps, but the effect is obvious. Current dimming is also to adjust the amount of current through the light source, so as to achieve the purpose of dimming, which is a very suitable way for LED dimming.


Intelligent dimming lighting system methods are broadly divided into the following categories:

1. 0-10V (1-10V) dimming control;

2. DALI digital dimming control system

3. DMX 512 dimming control system

4. Zigbee dimming control system

The more popular ones are DMX and DALI.


DALI

In the DALI lighting control system, several control panels are used to connect to several luminaires. It is like a decentralized system where each control panel is individually controlled to dim the lights. The DALI control uses two wires as control lines, and the maximum distance it can cover is 300 meters. Each DALI control can be connected to 64 people, taking care of the 254 brightness levels from "off" to "on" mode.


DMX

In contrast to DALI, DMX uses a single control panel to control all luminaires and lights. In contrast to the decentralized DALI, it is a centralized lighting control system. The DMX has multiple placement connectors for connecting multiple luminaires and multiple light sources. With DMX it is also possible to control the colour of the lights, which is not possible with DALI connections.


Differences between DMX and DALI

1. DMX or Digital Multiplex is a fast control system, whereas DALI or Digital Addressable Lighting Interface is a low-speed control system. 2.

2. DMX can be connected up to 512 connections, whereas in DALI the maximum number of connections is 64. 3.

In the DMX system, automatic addressing cannot be performed in the DALI system, but it is possible. 4.

In both systems, the cable length is 300 m, whereas in Dmx the cable requirement is Cat-5. 5.

5. DMX is a centralized control panel and DALI is a decentralized control system.


Depending on the requirements, both DMX and DALI can be used for optimization purposes. Together with the lighting system, the type of lamp and luminaire used plays an important role in fulfilling the task.

5. Main features of intelligent lighting control

2、Scene mode control: several different scene modes can be pre-set and fade in and out when the scene mode is switched.
