INDOOR BADMINTON COURT LIGHTING REQUIREMENTS
Healthy is More important for us, people also pay attention on sports now. Playing badminton is a very popular sport. It can not only help exercise multiple organs and tissues of the human body, but also help improve cardiopulmonary function, enhance muscle strength, improve posture, Promote metabolism, Improve responsiveness, etc.
We will introduce in details about indoor badminton court lighting requirements.
1. BADMINTON COURT STANDARDS
The standard badminton court is 13.40 meters long, 6.10 meters wide for doubles, and 5.18 meters wide for singles. The diagonal length of the doubles court = 14.723 meters, and the diagonal length of the singles court = 14.366 meters. A rectangular court evenly divided by nets in the center (the pillars on both sides are 1.55 meters high and the middle net is 1.524 meters high).
According to international competition regulations, the minimum overhead space on the entire court is 9 meters. Within this height, there must not be any beams or other obstacles. There must be no obstacles within 2 meters around the court. There should be a minimum distance of 2 meters between any two juxtaposed courts.
2. BADMINTON COURT LIGHTING CHARACTERISTICS
Badminton hall lighting usually have three forms: natural lighting, artificial lighting and mixed nature and artificial lighting. Most of the badminton courts use mixed lighting, and the artificial lighting in the badminton courts is general lighting. In the design of the badminton hall, in order for athletes to accurately judge the path, height and landing point of the ball, the first step is to maximize the use of natural light. The light effect is the best. Of course, glare must be prevented and excessive light must not be exposed directly or directly. reflected into the eyes. It is to increase the stability of illumination and the uniformity and coordination of distribution. This is very important not only for athletes to achieve excellent results, but also for accurate scoring by referees and appreciation from the audience.
3. FACTORS INFLUENCING BADMINTON COURT LIGHTING QUALITY
1) Illumination level: Whether the illumination reaches the standard.
Generally speaking, the vertical illumination should be greater than 1/2 of the horizontal illumination. When the vertical illumination is equal to the horizontal illumination, the sports environment is optimal.
Illumination standards for badminton courts:
Amateur competition (training): 150lx-300lx
General competition: 300lx-500lx
Formal competition: 500-750-1500lx
Auditorium: 30lx-100lx
2) Illumination uniformity: Whether the illumination of the sports field is uniform.
The uniformity of illumination is used to measure the visual conditions in the venue. Uniformity means that the venue should be illuminated evenly, and there should be no areas that are too bright or too dark, so as to provide good visual conditions for athletes, spectators, and referees. For example, for television broadcasts, when the camera takes a panoramic view of the competition area, the illumination cannot change greatly, otherwise it will cause camera exposure.
%1) Glare: The light have bad glare or not.
Glare is another important factor in evaluating lighting quality. The generation of glare is related to the installation method and installation height of lamps, the number and installation density of lamps, and the light distribution of lamps.
%1) Brightness ratio: the difference in color and brightness between the object and the background.
%1) For the eye to be able to distinguish objects on the background, the color of the background and the object are different, or there is a certain brightness contrast between the background and the object. If the object is brighter and the background is slightly darker, the vision will be better; conversely, if the background is brighter than the object, the vision will be significantly reduced. When the lighting conditions are very poor, especially when there is a lack of brightness difference, it may cause false visual phenomena, distort the perceived objects, and adversely affect the judgment of important information.
5) Stability of lighting: If there is flicker or not.
The stability of lighting directly affects people's health, and unstable lighting can lead to reduced vision of athletes. Lighting stability is mainly reflected in the stroboscopic effect. Strobe is caused by the periodic changes in the current when the AC power supply is powered, and the light flux will also change periodically, causing people to create an illusion when observing moving objects. Periodic changes in current cause the light source to be unstable. This results in obvious flicker under artificial lighting. When observing the movement of the badminton, you can see a blurry shadow with low resolution.
4. HOW TO CHOOSE LIGHTS FOR A BADMINTON COURT
As a professional 17 years led stadium lighting manufacture, Romanso LED stadium sport light use high-brightness American original CREE LEDs with lamp efficiency as high as 150lm/W, provide sufficient and uniform lighting for badminton courts, table tennis courts, tennis and other sports venues and other competition venues.
High-power LED lights are highly energy-saving, low-carbon and environmentally friendly, with an energy-saving rate of over 70%. This LED lighting fixture adopts a unique and innovative module-integrated design and professional optical lenses,high-transmittance and anti-UV frosted polycarbonate lens, which can effectively illuminate the court with light while leaving the auditorium with less brightness, thus enhancing the brightness ratio of the court and making it easier for athletes to see the path of the ball. Romanso lights have high overall light efficiency, high color rendering index, instant start-up, no flicker, no bad glare, and a wide operating voltage range; they have over voltage and undervoltage protection functions, are safe and reliable, have long service life, and are easy to install and maintenance. With unique design,IP66 waterproof, and use Meanwell driver, Romanso is Meanwell PMB member, if the driver have problem, local Meanwell engineer will help customer check and fix it, customer needn’t send back.
Romanso LED lighting fixtures have passed ETL, cETL, CE, RoHs, SAA and other international certifications. With its excellent luminous illumination effect, excellent energy saving level, intelligent and humanized control, and rich project case experience, provide one stop solution for customers, now has been supported and recognized by many new and old customers from all over the world.
Romanso have done important projects as below:

* The Youth Olympic Games in Argentina 2018
* The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Papua New Guinea 2016, etc.
5. IF YOU HAVE A BADMINTON PROJECT, WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
(1) At first, we must determine the nature of the venue, whether it is a general training or competition venue. For badminton halls in general units, an illumination of 500lx or above is sufficient, or it can be brighter.
(2) Secondly, determine the lighting fixtures. In terms of balls, the ball is relatively small, so anti-glare lighting fixtures must be used, otherwise the ball will be very dazzling after the lighting fixtures are installed later.
(3) After confirm the lighting fixtures, determine the lighting position according to the location of the badminton court and how to install the lighting fixtures. If it is a comprehensive arena, such as a badminton court in a basketball court, the lighting position must be designed in advance. Romanso can provide you Dialux simulation if you can provide the badminton court drawing, calculate how many lights do you need, where the lights install.
You are welcome to consult with your project requirements, and we will provide you with professional one-stop solutions.
